With just nine weeks until @Global Pet Expo , I’m continuing my prep series to help creators and businesses make the most of this incredible networking opportunity! Every year I get a lot of questions about why Global Pet Expo is not open to the general public, and I always do my best to answer that question. Even after last weeks video where I discussed how to apply to attend, I got questions about how to go if you are not an influencer. The reason why this tradeshow is not open to the general public is because at the end of the day, it is actually meant for a businesses to meet with vendors to bring product into their store. It is a privilege and an honor that they allow creators to work at these events, but at the end of the day, you are truly there to network. I feel like as creators, we have kind of done a disservice when it comes to portraying what happens at these events. A lot of creators post their “hauls” and nothing else, when in reality none of that is expected and there are a lot of times you don’t get any product. Hauls can be a great way to thank brands, but it shouldn’t be the main focus of these events. Most of your day is spent talking to brands about their upcoming launches, how influence or marketing can benefit them, and pretty much selling yourself. This is why the application is so heavy on analytics, content performance, previous collaborations, etc. It is an honor to be allowed to attend these trade shows. However, at the end of the day it is a time for business, not popularity.
