Replying to @Ally 💕 The greatest concern with raising meat chickens past processing is their size. When not processed appropriately they often get so large that they can’t walk, have heart attacks, suffer organ failure, and have a generally poor quality of life. You can keep them alive with a strict diet- but it typically doesn’t go well for you or the bird. #cornishcross #meatchickens #chickens #pastureraised
If you’ve ever hunted anything processing, your own chickens will be a breeze. #meatchickens #cornishcross #eatmeat #homestead
As you know.. this year, we rescued 468 chickens from ritualistic slaughter, but what you may not know is that 48 of these incredible souls will now call Tamerlaine their forever home!!! Cornish Cross chickens, the most vulnerable and costly animals we care for, require specialized diets, therapies, and veterinary care to thrive. We’re proud to have become experts in providing them the best care possible, three of our rescued chickens are even turning 10 years old this year! But caring for 48 more is a significant challenge, and we need your help to ensure they live healthy, happy lives. As the year comes to a close, we invite you to join us in this life saving work. End of the year giving is the best time to make an impact, and every donation helps us continue to rescue, heal, and protect these beautiful beings. 🌟 Make your gift today and be part of this legacy of kindness.🌟 Only a few days more to reach our goal😬 Let’s end the year with hope and compassion! I am confused and disappointed with the cornish cross we have purchased in the last few years. I've tried different feeds, with the same results. this group is on 24% Meat Bird Start to Finish feed, with 24hr access to food and water. Despite it being winter here with freezing temps, their shed is warmed and they don't have the same cold weather stress as the rest of our livestock. but they just aren't growing. I started them with fermented feed, but their growth significantly slowed at around 4 weeks old, so I switched back to dry feed thinking maybe the fermented feed was too much water and not enough feed, so their protein intake was possibly reduced, but I haven't seen any significant change since switching them back to dry feed. they should be ready to harvest by now, but they're not. #homesteadersoftiktok #homesteaders #homesteader #homesteadingtiktok #homesteadinglife #homesteading #homesteadtoktok #homestead #homesteadlife #chickens #babychickens #meatchickens #cornishcross #chickensoftiktok #chickentok #meatchickentok #chicken #raiseyourownfood #raiseyourownmeat #cornishcrossexperiment #sciencetheshitoutofit #science #experiment #agriculture #research #fermentedfeed
