Yesterday an officer in Idaho was responding to the reports of a semi truck on fire, when things took a turn. This all took place on Sunday off of Interstate 15 near Shelby, Idaho. So the sheriff’s deputy responded to the scene and saw a semi truck hauling cattle was on fire. By the time the police officer had arrived on the scene, the truck driver had already gotten all the cattle out of the trailer safely. Other first responders arrived and were helping the truck driver help corral the loose cattle. One of the cows got spooked and ran into traffic on Interstate 15, and when the deputy ran after it to try and catch it. The cow turned around and charged at the deputy instead, knocking him to the ground. The cow started to attack the police officer as he was down on the ground, and after after a few minutes of this, the police officer was forced to shoot the cow. It was simply a matter of self defense at that point. The police was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and he was released that very same day. They think that the cow might of gotten injured and possibly burned in the truck fire, and they think that is the only reason that the cow was so aggressive toward to the deputy. Interstate 15 was shut down for several hours as they worked to corral all the remaining cattle and safely load them into a new trailer. The initial fire on the semi truck seems to have started by the tires on the trailer. Luckily the loose cattle did not cause any further accidents.
