On January 15th, 2025, the Albuquerque Police Department got notifications about a stolen vehicle in the area of Montgomery and San Mateo Blvds. According to a criminal complaint, they were able to locate a stolen Volkswagen with two occupants inside and officers tried to do a traffic stop while the vehicle was parked at a local business. APD officers observed two occupants inside the vehicle during their initial observations. The complaint goes on to say, a man in the passenger seat quickly got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. The vehicle now occupied once then fled from law enforcement. The man told police he met the woman a few days ago and they were going to go buy drugs together. He identified the driver as 20-year-old Alayna Romero of Albuquerque. In the meantime, the car drove recklessly throughout the NE part of Albuquerque with Romero driving like a maniac trying to get away from the police. The complaint states that APD’s air support unit was able to follow Romero’s every movement safely from the sky. APD officers were able to set up spike strips for the vehicles tires. The vehicle ran over the spikes and Romero ditched the now useless car near the 2500 block of Graceland Ave. She was carrying bags with her during a foot chase with officers and she eventually ditched the bags. She was caught at a nearby mobile home park. Officers found drugs and drug pipes in the bags she ditched. She had a slight case of incarceritis and complained of splinters in her feet. She was taken to a local hospital for assessment but eventually booked into MDC. Romero is charged with embezzlement of a motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing law enforcement, failure to render aid, possession of a controlled substance, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia,
