One of the migrants sent to Guantánamo Bay crossed the border legally. Luis Alberto Castillo Rivera is 23 years old from Venezuela. He has no criminal history nor any pending charges. He received a message from the CBPOne app in December about his appointment for asylum on January 19. On that day he legally crossed the border into El Paso through a proper port of entry and was detained for processing. He called his family on February 3, saying he thought he would be released soon. Instead, he was on a plane to Gitmo the next day because he has a tattoo of Air Jordan and a crown. He was accused of being a gang member. This is a 23-year-old with no criminal history, no pending charges, who followed the legal process, who waited his "turn", and crossed at a legal port of entry to arrive at his appointment for asylum processing into the United States. And he was sent to Guantánamo Bay for a tattoo of a well-known basketball brand. They are also talking about sending the Laken Riley detainees to Gitmo. These are people who have been merely accused of theft crimes — not convicted. So this is not just about criminals. These are people with NO criminal records being sent to a prison known for torture. And if an attorney wants to see a client there? It takes one week just to get there and get processed in. Please share this story. Keep paying attention.
