Does that count as an extinct water ride? 🐳 🤔😂 As the story goes, Walt walked by Storybookland Cana Boats one day and realized that Monstro the whale was not spouting water. When he asked why it the effect was turned off, they replied that guests were complaining about getting wet on the Circus Train, which ran above it. Walt didn’t care, he insisted they turnthe effect back on. The added the tunnel later on that protected guests from the spray, but everything I’ve seen suggests it wasn’t added until the 1980s remodel of Fantasyland. Monstro was expensive to create, and when someone asked Walt why guests get swallowed up by the whale, he said it was because they paid so much for it, guests were going to get a good hard look at it 😂 Earlier concepts for incorporating Monstro into this land included a flume ride where you would fly down out of his mouth by a concept artist Bruce bushman. Two other quick notes: 1. The exactly location of the water feature for Peter Pan I’m not entirely sure of, that is my best guess for where it would have been based on the Imagineering work order. 2. I’m fairly sure the carousel benches are fiberglass replicas of the originals now on Casey Jr., but I love that they repurposed them that way. Thanks for taking a walk with me, I could tell stories for hours about Disneyland and love to share little pieces of history I’ve picked up along the way 🥰 These were just a few off of the top of my head, I wish I had time for more!
