They probably won’t make this change, but if the Imagineers truly wanted to restore the legacy of the Beating Heart Bride, this would be the way to do it 👰♀️❤️ Adding this new (old) bride and removing Constance Hatchaway is an interesting creative decision on behalf of imagining. It does embrace some of the history of the haunted mansion, but it does bring back the ambiguity of the original bride storyline. Is she connected with Priscilla from the old Captain Gore story that we see in the queue? How did she get in the attic, and why is she separated from all of the other girls who are celebrating in the graveyard? It made sense for Constance Hatchaway to be eternally banned from the party because of her crimes, but the beating heart bride was an oddity in the original mansion, and I suppose could be as well with this version again depending on what Imagineering does with her story. ![Poor Adriana 🥺 $5 was nothing to sneeze at back in the 1930s, which would be about $110 today. It was common in those days for Walt Disney to pay bonuses for good ideas that the animators came up with if they ended up using it in the film. I don’t know if it was negligence or finances that kept Adriana in particular from being paid for this idea for Snow White, but I always picture the poor girl eating cold sandwiches as everyone else in the studio went off to lunch 😭 This story comes from an interview with Adriana Caselotti conducted by David Johnson (date unknown). Here is her exact account: “I remember that Disney said, ‘I’m taking you to lunch,’ so I went with him. We went across the street. It was a sort of a nice little restaurant. So we went in to have lunch and it was a very nice lunch and it was fifty cents. He said, ‘See, Adriana, how inexpensive this is. You can eat here every time.’ But he didn’t know I didn’t have the fifty cents. When mother would give me a candy bar I didn’t have… We had no money. If she could make a sandwich, she’d make a sandwich and I would eat the sandwich at Disney’s, but they didn’t know I had no money to go across the street. If I had the nickel to come home, it was great, but if I didn’t have it, [Walt] took me home a couple of times. I think he knew that I was pretty broke, so he’d offer to take me home, and this was when he said to me one day, ‘You know, if you come up with any ideas that are good, I would certainly enjoy that, because we could use that and then I would give you five dollars.’ And [one day] I was on the set and he happened to be there. So I walked over to him and I said, ‘If you could get a bird to imitate me, we would do something like…’ And I had the exact melody and he used it exactly: [sings ahhhhhhh]. And he said, ‘Hey, guys, come over here! Look what the kid’s got. She’s got an idea!’ This is the truth. That’s used in the movie. And I still wanna know where’s the five bucks! What I wouldn’t give to see those traveling lights again 😭 Honorable mentions for other concepts I considered: -Rolly Crump’s creepy hand vase & mushroom people - A little spider in a top hat (like the one playing the organ in a Marc Davis concept) - Words from Leota’s lost incantations (“Harpies and Furies, old friends and new, Blow on a horn, so we'll know that it's you…. Horned toads and lizards, fiddle and strum, Please answer the roll by beating a drum.”) The champagne could possible sit on a table up on the second-story balcony, like the glasses of lemonade used to back in the day. I think it would be a fun way to both foreshadow what’s to come and allude to life that used to be lived in the Mansion. 🤷♀️ But really, the well (probably not a wishing one, I misspoke 😂) that was going to be in the southern exit was what I was REALLY hoping for. They could easily just illuminate the water red at night with lighting so it could be somewhat “normal” the during the day. The inscription I mentioned was supposed to be scratched on a nearby wall, and even if it was tiny, I think it would be fun to have, like graffiti from regions beyond 👻 All of these ideas are just things I considered (hoped?) they might do during this remodel.
