How I transformed this closet in a day using the Target Bookshelf Hack and two IKEA dressers we already had at home. First I removed the old shelf, spackled the walls, and painted the walls with a mix of some leftover white paint we had at home. Then I started building the bookshelves! These are about $40 at Target. I only grabbed 2 for our closet makeover, but I’ve seen people use these to makeover their entire walk-ins for cheap. Once the bookshelves were built, I decided it would look super cute to add some beadboard wallpaper to the back for a more finished look. I seriously love this stuff—I’ve bought it 3 times and you can find it linked in our amazon storefront (affiliate link in bio!) While that was drying, I went to Lowe’s to grab some closet rods and shelves. Quick tip: don’t buy closet rods and shelves from the closet organization aisle—go down to the building/lumber section and you’ll find almost the exact same thing there for a lot cheaper. I cut the rods down to size, and stained them with Verathane’s “unbleached” wood stain. I was a liiiittle worried when I saw how grey this is, but it ended up looking nice after I wiped off the excess AND it was a really good match to our dressers Then installed these curtain rod holders into the side of the bookshelves. Be REALLY CAREFUL when drilling!! I ended up drilling through one hole, but it’s okay because it was on the side of the bookshelf we wouldn’t see. Then I used our laser level and stud finder to mark out where we wanted to install our shelf brackets. Secured the shelf in place, and LOOK AT THIS CLOSET. This is the most functional closet we’ve ever had and we’re super excited about it. Now it’s time to finish up our bedroom transformation. Follow for more diy motivation!!
