I’d be lying if I told you that I never yelled at my dogs. Nobody’s perfect and I don’t expect you to be. I sure am not. However, excessive yelling does nothing to aid you in communicating correctly and effectively with your dogs. It may relieve some frustration, but you’re only adding stress to the situation. Not only can your dogs become stressed because of your yelling, but they can also mimic your behavior and act aggressively towards other dogs or members of your family because of you yelling. If you can become more aware and calmer in these types of situations or any situations with your dog, it will be much more effective and beneficial for the purpose of training and communication. They are known for being protective, loyal, and territorial. They are also known for being reserved, calm, and loud so none of this surprised me. 👍 @Brick City Rescue contacted us about Oliver in a very high stress, less than adequate, animal control facility. 💀 A dog of Oliver’s paralyzing fear doesn’t stand a chance there 💉💉. They simply don’t have the resources. ❤️ Staying right sized is of the utmost importance when working shelter dogs in this state or fight or flight; both literally and figuratively. The situation in the moment must be changed asap as well. Hence, the priority removal into a quiet area. 🤐 That includes people… STFU! I do too! A fearful dog like Oliver needs distance, hence the extended leash setup. We also avoided making eye contact with him. 💪 Little by little, Oliver started walking closer. Embodiment of stability through SILENT communication is key. Movement speaks volumes. Yes, feeding at appropriate moments is also important. 🤐 Remember, reassurance, as typically understood by humans, is TOXIC to dogs! 🚫“It’s ok… it’s ok” 🚫 🤐🤐🤐🤐🤐🤐🤐🤐🤐🤐🤐 SHUT UP, please. 😀 We moved together.
