Why is this an insecurity? It feels like I’m cheating, a fraud and not talented enough to draw without a light pad. (Which I know is not true 😆) A light pad can be a huge benefit to an artist. I consider my style pretty realistic, so I use a light pad to aid in some of my more detailed pieces such as venues or pet portraits. I print out the layout of what I am drawing, put it and my drawing paper on the light pad and basically trace lightly with a pencil to get accurate measurements and size details. Once I move into the color part of the project the light pad is no longer used. I am formally trained in drawing, not that I need to justify my use of this, but it does comfort me knowing I don’t have to rely on using this pad if I don’t want to, but working smarter not harder is just part of business! 👏🏻 . . .
