Five Years, Three States, One Big Leap Five years ago, we packed up our life in the Bay Area and moved to Paradise, CA, to open Old Barn Kitchen, chasing a dream of good food and community. Just months later, the Camp Fire tore through the town, changing everything. We rebuilt, moved to a farm in the canyon, and kept going. Then, in 2020—on a leap of faith (and maybe a little pandemic-induced chaos)—we bought a house sight unseen in upstate New York, 3,000 miles away. We restored and sold our first cottage, found our forever home in an 1832 stone farmhouse, and kept building. Somewhere in the whirlwind, we opened Rove Café & Kitchen, then my shop Rove + Dwell. A café, a general store, a farm, and a life we never expected—but wouldn’t trade for anything. It’s been a ride. And somehow, it still feels like the beginning.
