We're gonna take back when @The Temptations performed "Get Ready" on Shivaree in March 1966. Can we all agree, 2024 has been one hell of a year and most definitely a rollercoaster to say the least. As for The Temptations, it was a great year. The Tempts really showed out this year by appearing on multiple shows and touring all throughout. We all got to give props and thank God we still have the original Temptation, Dr. Otis Williams to stick around carrying on the legacy at 83 years old. Not to mention that "The Way You Do The Things You Do," which was their very first hit that sparked their momentum and "My Girl" being their first #1 song that took them to legendary status marked its 60th anniversary this year! Also, that timeless classic reached one billion streams on @spotify! Two of those great songs put those guys on the map and became even more as of today. For me and this page, it surely was a good one. Y'all have shown so much support for this page since my original one got taken down a year and a half ago. This shows y'all that no matter how many times you get knocked down, there's always a way to get back up. Let's continue this ride for 2025 and continue the Temptations ongoing legacy! On this day, @The Temptations released their #1 hit smash "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)" 54 years ago! - Swipe left to learn the story⬅️ Today Temptations fans, is the 54th anniversary of The Temptations all-time classic "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)!" It was released today back in 1971 and later on became another #1 hit, as well as becoming their very first platinum record. The story behind this classic is one of my favorites to hear every now and then. Around this time, Eddie Kendricks time with the Temptations was slowly coming to an end. By then, he had personal issues with his bandmate and defacto leader Otis Williams and didn't like how Motown was handling their money. Paul Williams was struggling with health issues due to his sickle cell disease causing him in a lot of pain and alcohol usage to numb it. The road was also coming to a close for Paul as well. Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong came up with the song in 1969 but they shelved it due to the psychedelic run the Temptations were on at the time. Thankfully, they brought it back when "Unite The World" didn't make the top 30, which was another psychedelic record. During the recording of "Just My Imagination," Otis, Paul, Dennis, and Melvin laid down the background vocals and Eddie ended up staying at Motown all night to record his lead part. The song was released and blew up the charts, eventually becoming another #1 hit song. A few months after its release and reaching the top of the charts, Eddie Kendricks quit the group and went solo. Shortly after, Paul Williams retired from performing due to his health declining. You can say, they both left the Temptations on top. Happy 54th anniversary! On this day, @The Temptations released their hit single "Psychedelic Shack" 55 years ago! The Temptations were getting hotter, and hotter going into their psychedelic phase by the late 60s/early 70s. Thanks to Norman Whitfield's brilliant mind, the Tempts weren't stopping in no time with the hits. "Psychedelic Shack" was another hit for the group and another song that featured all five members taking turns singing lead. The song touches on the popular hippie nightclubs that were going on around that time and the young people of that generation just having fun being free with themselves. It would later reach #2 on the US R&B chart, #4 on Cash Box, and #7 on the @Billboard Hot 100. It's really been 55 years since the Tempts took us to psychedelic shack because that's where it's at! This is a very sad topic to bring up that involves a man, who was so broken by his own wife and could only express his pain through the lyrics he wrote. "Sunshine blue skies, please go away. My girl has found another and gone away. With her went my future, my life is filled with gloom. So day, after day I stayed locked up in my room. I know to you it might sound strange, but I wish it would rain." Those were the words a 22 year old man named Rodger Penzabene wrote to express his broken heart. @The Temptations hit song "I Wish It Would Rain" was a song that the young man truly felt at the time. His wife broke his heart when he found out she was having an affair behind his back. The song was released in 1967 on the same day "My Girl" was released a few years prior at the time. A week after its release, Rodger Penzabene took his own life on New Year's Eve. Before his untimely death, he co-wrote another hit song expressing his feelings with "I Could Never Love Another (After Loving You)," which was released months after the incident. Tomorrow will be his death anniversary, but we will celebrate his songwriting talent today and appreciate his work for giving us two timeless Temptations classics. He will forever be missed.
