Many years ago (I think I was 22 at the time; I wish I had gone sooner), I attended a modeling / acting school for 1.5 years. During that time, I practiced and polished my modeling walk, learned different steps and turns, worked on eye contact, and truly transformed my relationship with my body. One of the most impactful experiences was being on stage despite being scaredโit helped me build my confidence. However, it wasnโt until later that I realized how much I was using the skills I learned in modeling school. Whether negotiating contracts with clients at my job, interacting with vendors for my business, or even in romantic situations, compliments on my walk and presence became a regular occurrence. People often said, โYouโre so natural.โ But letโs not forgetโI practiced a lot! I would walk with a book balanced on my head at home, use a broomstick for alignment, and watch my favorite runway shows to mimic the modelsโ walks. All of this practice laid the foundation for what others saw as โnatural. Now, I tell my students: Practice, practice, practice. Bring awareness to your body, your walk, and your movements. So, when someone compliments your walk, you can confidently say, โThank you, I was born this way.โ ๐ (And weโll keep the practice part a secret ๐ค).
