First time doing the Enchanted Tiki Room at Disney, believe it or not! I can’t believe I waited so long! Thanks to special guest Byron from the @For Your Amusement podcast for the fun facts! #disneyland #firsttime #disneyadult #disneyparks #enchantedtikiroom #tikiroom #disneylandtiktok #samanthasouza
It took me YEARS to figure out why that song plays at the end of this show because it always felt like an odd choice. But when you put it in context of the fast pivot from restaurant concept to show, it makes sense. They needed a way to get people up and out of their seats and out of the building fast, and adding a catchy tune that everybody knew (but just putting new words to it) was a quick and efficient way to get the job done. Nobody had to write more music, Disney just had to plug in a few lyrics to a tune they already owned. It’s no secret that there’s several other pieces left over from the restaurant concept still around, including the fact that they had previously recycled the chairs for the restaurant and use them for the show (they’ve since been replaced by benches). The coffee beverage station that is in the center of the room remained, however, and you can see it in the concept art I showed here. The Rolly Crump Maui tiki statue is such a crazy story because the deer scare/bamboo that tipped over wasn’t really what he was thinking of when the wife was in that particular position 😳 When John Hench saw it, he told Rollly, you can’t put that in a Disney park 😂 when we asked what God it was, John Hench said, “the tempo God”. Walt misheard him and thought he said the god of time. When we walked away, they panicked and realized they had to figure out what God was associated with time, and after some research they came up with Maui. They added a clock to his face and the rest is history. Rolly sculpted about 80% of what you see in the tiki room because nobody else was available to help because they were all busy with the 1964 New York World’s Fair. When he asked Blaine Gibson for help, he said all of my sculptors are busy and suggested Rolly do it himself. So he did, he sculpted things for the first time in his life, and he did, indeed, use a fork from the commissary to make the grooves and scratches on the tikis. #tikiroom #enchantedtikiroom #waltdisney #rollycrump #disney #disneyparks #disneysecrets #disneytrivia #imagineering #imagineers #johnhench #disneyland #disneylandpark #disneylandcalifornia #disneyfun #disneyfan #dolewhip #disneyattractions #adventureland #disneyhistory #disneyfan #disneyfans #disneynerd #distory #disneytok #disneytiktok
