One of my proudest accomplishments in 2024 will forever be helping Wimpy fight his battle to live. He was born into this world already facing a bunch of obstacles — premature, malnourishment due to his mother being neglected and starved while she was pregnant (before coming to sanctuary), severe upper respiratory infection that came with an extremely high fever. This little dude beat the odds. He might be 1/3 the size of his brothers but his heart … it’s just as big and strong. To all of you reading this — including our team members. Your donations, love, support, hard work, kind words have all helped us continue our mission here at Rancho Relaxo. We genuinely couldn’t do it without the community we have built together. Thank you. So much. A huge stand out thank you to @hispees — who works tirelessly for the animals every single day. I couldn’t continue without him personally. This is a very hard life but worth it. Having been able to create a small safe space in this big world for animals in need 13 years ago and to continue to keep it going to this day … well, it has not been an easy task. As most of you know, back in September, we rescued a pregnant mamma pig who was found at a hoarding case. She ended up giving birth, prematurely, to piglets. Wimpy was one of those babies. Right from the start, we knew he was going to face challenges — as he had a high fever, severe upper respiratory distress/infection, failure to thrive (wasn’t retaining nutrients). He ended up losing all of his hair due to said fever. We made the executive decision to bring him inside once the temperatures outside dropped. Now, he gets bundled up to visit his mom and brothers (Marla, Tube Sock, Topsy) in the barn. He absolutely hates the cold — rightfully so. So, thanks to you guys suggesting it, we brought the snow inside for him to enjoy. He loved it. 😭♥️ Thank you all for being here. Most of you understand what we do but I don’t talk specifically enough about our mission. Rancho Relaxo exists to give the slaughter-bound, neglected, abused, at risk, unwanted, “useless” animals a soft place to land and live out their lives. I do my best to educate the public through their harrowing, inspirational, devastating, uplifting stories. Levon had no where to go after his human passed away. He was at risk of being sent to auction due to his old age and inability to be ridden. This made him difficult to place because there was nothing he could give back to whoever decided to take him in. He probably would have ended up at a slaughterhouse — just as so many horses do on a daily basis. I love this little video clip so much. I stood still for a moment and simply watched him enjoying the final snowflakes fall from the sky after a full day of heavy snowfall. He had on his warm winter blanket and had fresh bedding under his hooves. He was content. He is content. This is all I ever expect of the animals under our care here at the sanctuary. I just want them to know peace. 💜 We are only able to continue this important, life-saving work with your support. Checking in with Grandma Ruth! 💜 A couple of months ago, Grandma Ruth gave us quite the scare. She was having a hard time getting up in her special pasture. We knew it would be best for her to come into the barn a little earlier for the cold month period with her best friend, Robin. They both suffer from arthritis and have to be monitored closely. Currently, they are doing great. I am so proud of them. I am going to add a bunch of Ruth’s favorite goat treats to the wishlist — if anyone wants to get her a bag! ✨ Meet Sassy, one of our founding goats! ✨ Six years ago, Sassy and her sister/mom (we could never quite tell, but Cuppy loved her like a baby 🥹) wandered into our neighborhood wild and scared. With no one to claim them, we opened our hearts and home to them with help from our amazing neighbors—and they became the start of our rescue journey. Sassy was about 10 then, making her around 16 years young now! She’s proof that love truly changes lives.
