When I was packing to get sworn into the Minnesota State Bar, I debated between a red suit and a tan suit. I thought the tan suit would probably be seen as more "subtle" and "appropriate" in a courtroom setting, while the red suit might come across as "too bold" or "too much." Ultimately, I asked myself which one I felt best in, and the red suit was the answer. Not because I was trying to be too much or too bold, but because it just felt right—it was more me. This moment reflected a bigger struggle I faced when first starting my legal career. I felt like I needed to fit into this perfect little box of what a lawyer 'should' be or look like. I thought that to be successful, I needed to change things about myself. That being myself was somehow unprofessional. But here's what nobody tells you about being a lawyer: authenticity actually attracts the right kind of clients and opportunities. When I let my personality shine through, whether in client meetings or networking events, amazing things happen! To my fellow aspiring or current lawyers (especially those still finding their way) - you don't have to dim your light to fit in. Your uniqueness isn't a barrier to success. It's actually your secret weapon. ✨ Lawyers, have you ever felt pressure to look or act a certain way to fit the traditional 'lawyer persona'? Let me know below. And aspiring lawyers, save this post as your reminder that you don't have to change who you are to be successful! 🙌🏼 _________ #lawstudents #tipsforlawstudents #lawschoolstudent #legaljourney #femalelawyer #femalefounder #womensupportingwomen #lawyersofinstagram #lawyerlife #lawlife #lawfirmowner #personalinjurylawyer #employmentlawyer

Reminder: It’s never too late and you are not behind in life. I took almost two years off after graduating college and before starting law school. My gap years were both a time of transformation and confusion. While I loved having the time to confirm my desire to go to law school, study for the LSAT, and apply to law school, I also felt lost and behind in life. I saw friends start their careers, go to grad school, and embark on other ventures, while I was in this limbo phase. Looking back now, I am 100% happy with my decision to take time off before starting law school. I was mentally ready for law school and had time to do things for myself before it all began. So as living proof, I’m here to say it will work out. Not just work out, but the pieces will fall into place. Just keep going! Your timing is perfect for you and your journey. Whatever you do during your time of exploration and transformation, embrace it! It’s not just about reaching your destination, but enjoying the ride along the way. 🙏🏽 Everything will work out the way it’s supposed to in the end. Save this post as a reminder if you ever find yourself feeling behind in your journey to law school. 🤍 _________ #trusttheprocess #gapyear #lawschoolprep #prelaw #lawyermotivation #aspiringlawyer #futurelawyer #womeninlaw #legaljourney #femalelawyer #femalefounder #womensupportingwomen
Building a Personal Brand as a Lawyer – Part 2! How to stay consistent with posting and managing content between your personal brand and your law firm’s Instagram. Here is what I aim to do: My Weekly Posting Goals: ✅ 3 posts/week on my personal page (for building connection and authenticity). ✅ 2 posts/week on my firm’s page (to highlight expertise and stay top of mind). What works for me may look different for you, and that’s okay! The goal is to create a rhythm that’s realistic and sustainable. Here are a few ways that I approach my content... 1️⃣ Monthly Planning Meetings – I meet with my strategist to review performance, brainstorm ideas, and set content themes. If you’re doing this solo, set time aside monthly to map things out. 2️⃣ 2-Week Content Blocks – I don’t plan too far ahead to keep things flexible and relevant. Shorter planning periods help me adapt to timely topics. 3️⃣ Content Capture on the Go – I use shared iPhone albums with my strategist to save B-roll and photos as they happen. Even without a team, keeping a folder of ideas keeps things organized. 4️⃣ Batch Filming Days – I set aside dedicated time each month to film reels and grab B-roll. During lighter weeks, I’ll spend an hour each Friday. When it’s busy, I batch 1-2 hours monthly. The key here is flexibility. Your content should work for you, not against you. Having backup ideas and batching content has been a game-changer for consistency without burnout. Stay tuned for Part 3! I’ll dive into how to keep your content authentic, whether you’re doing this solo or with a team. What helps you stay consistent with content? Drop your tips below. _________ #tipsforlawyers #personalbranding #brandstory #socialmediamarketingtips #lawfirmgrowth #womeninlaw #womenoflaw #lawyermotivation #legaljourney #femalelawyer #femalefounder

Did you know that you can get sworn into a state bar without taking their bar exam? I just got sworn into the Minnesota State Bar without taking the Minnesota Bar Exam! Here is everything you will need if you're looking to apply to be an attorney in a Uniform Bar Exam jurisdiction 👇🏽 ✅The key ingredient you need is the Uniform Bar Exam, or what is most commonly known as the "UBE"! Your UBE score can be transferred to approximately 40 other states regardless of where you took the test as long as the following factors are also met. ✅ Check for the expiration of your UBE score AND the minimum score required for the state you are applying to. For example: Minnesota only gives you 3 years from the date you sit for the UBE until the date you submit your application. Minnesota requires a minimum UBE score of 260. ✅ Make sure you're a graduate of an ABA-accredited law school, this is very important! ✅ Have your MPRE (Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination) score ready. You usually take this test during law school or immediately after you graduate. Check if your current score and the date you received your MPRE score meets state requirements. I had to pause an application for another state because although I had the minimum MPRE score they required, I did not meet the time frame of when I received the score. My MPRE score is about 10 years old. ✅ Submit a character and fitness application. Most states will require this to be submitted, and it's an in-depth application that checks for your complete employment history, previous addresses, criminal record, and more. You may also be able to transfer another state's character and fitness application if it falls within the state's requirements. Pro tip: Each UBE jurisdiction has unique requirements and deadlines. Create a checklist specific to your target state(s)! I'm always happy to help provide more guidance or clarity if you're trying to navigate this process yourself. Feel free to drop your UBE questions below or DM me! Building a Personal Brand as a Lawyer – Part 3! Worried that hiring a Social Media Manager (SMM) means losing your authentic voice? I get it! Managing social media while running a law practice can be overwhelming. Here’s how I maintain authenticity in my personal brand while working with an SMM ⤵️ #1. Find someone who truly understands your values, tone, and energy. Your SMM should amplify your existing voice, not create a new one. #2. Set Clear Expectations Communicate your vision, goals, and law firm’s mission statement upfront. Be explicit about your non-negotiables for online presence – it’s your page, you set the direction. #3. Collaborate with your SMM. While they handle the heavy lifting (scheduling, drafting, editing, posting), stay involved in the process. Review everything and add your personal insights and stories to maintain authenticity. #4. Keep it personal. Even with an SMM, don’t hesitate to post directly when inspiration strikes. Those spontaneous, personal moments add genuine depth to your content. Finding the right person, staying engaged, and implementing effective systems creates a dream team that keeps your content authentic!
