Red Dye No. 3, also known as erythrosine, is a synthetic colorant used to give foods a bright, cherry-red hue. It’s commonly found in candies, baked goods, and certain beverages. However, as of January 15, 2025, the FDA has announced a ban on Red No. 3 in all foods, drinks, and ingested drugs due to studies linking high levels of the dye to cancer in lab rats.  Food manufacturers are required to reformulate affected products by January 15, 2027, and the ban on ingested drugs will take effect on January 18, 2028.
