I’m a Ford guy through and through but that doesn’t stop me from calling them out when they do something stupid. The 4 cylinder EcoBoost platform that Ford sold the public on from 2014-2020 was one of the biggest rip offs they have pushed on the consumer to date. More specifically the 1.0, 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, & 2.3 EcoBoost are the engines that I 100% do not recommend. The 1.0 has plenty of issues, including oil pump belt failure that is very prone. The 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, and 2.3 EcoBoost are notorious for having coolant intrusion into the cylinder. This is an issue with the block sealing surface that causes antifreeze to leak into your combustion chamber. This issue will cause you to lose coolant and exhibit random misfires. These engines can be found in Ford Fusions, Edges, Escapes, Ecosports, explorers, and all of the Lincoln counterparts. Ford has had several recalls and part updates trying to fix these issues over the years. The sad part is that the majority of these vehicles are outside of warranty at this point. This means that the cost of fixing these issue is on the consumer now. Bottom line is that the engines mentioned above are not reliable and will not last long term. If you own one I’d recommend getting ready for repair costs or getting rid of. If you’re looking for a new car I’d recommend staying away from these engines. The pictures you see here are from a 2017 Ford Fusion with a 1.5L EcoBoost.
