Notice I check before stepping backwards. I have a safe 2x10 joist to stand on and bend down less than if I stood on top of the joist and worked forward. That's less safe. Some of you will say "just stand on the ground and do it" but what the drone perspective doesn't show is the height of the concrete (notice the vent) + pony wall+ height of the joist. . Our approach to sill pan flashing is to use 6" Zip tape on the sill, and Stretch Tape in the corners. This is cost effective without losing ANY performance. It's also a lot easier on larger openings. If it's easier, we are much more likely to have a high quality installation which = greatly reduced or eliminated risk. Quality control is much higher when the process is simple. . The tape below the sill was to cover the metal strap required by the engineering for Force Transfer Around Opening. I prefer to tape, then install hardware but that wasn't possible on this one. . Incidentally, notice the panel nailing is flush and 3" oc. The nailing was specified by the structural engineer. Flush nailing is required if we want to meet the design loads. Who installs cap over corners?  This is very common in the PNW because it works.  We've pulled corners off on old buildings to remodel, and you can see the orginal layout and the siding looks brand new behind the corners.  One reason we do this, is that besides protection, its a "no caulk" detail.  This means that there is no maintenance required for the owner.  Other advantages for us include labor savings (on the sealant side, as well as installation), and we maintain airflow behind the siding. . #LongLiveOurBuildings #LPSmartside #skilledtrades #framersareadyingbreed #makitatools @LP BUILDING SOLUTIONS

Prefab for the win. Been using the Spotnails Corrugated Fastener Tool we bought from @Nail Gun Depot about 5 years ago instead of pocket screws or biscuits. Faster and frankly SmartSide trim doesn't open at the joints since there's no grain. Pre attaching rim, pulling layout and then after we sheathe this wall, we'll add the guardrails. It's must faster to do all this work on the ground. Going to be showing quite a bit from this series.  We have 2 deck stairs to build and will be using @Pacific Woodtech Treated LVL for the stringers, and concrete treads.  Full YouTube video later next month and come visit me at the PWT booth at IBS in February. . Quick look at the exterior stairs YOU should be building.  3 1/2" x 11 7/8" @Pacific Woodtech Treated LVL stained black with @sherwinwilliams WoodScapes Rain Refresh.  I had @Simpson Strong-Tie make a custom 4x10 hanger sloped to match the stairs and powder coat it.  There is a lot of content showing how to lay out, cut, build, paint, engineer, etc coming.  Don't worry, the Treated LVL Rim will get doubled. .
