Why do the Aspire free skate levels encourage basic spin positions?! My students always ask why they have to do the required basic spin position instead of a fun variation for aspire freeskate programs. The short answer is to strengthen the basics before attempting more difficult positions. Especially in competition when you are nervous! I personally wish Aspire was 6 levels instead of 4 but I do throughly enjoy the rules put in place to ensure every skater does the same spin position. It not only feels more encouraging but also helps skaters strengthen the basic skills before moving to difficult elements.
