I don’t control the opinions of others (and I don’t want to). The only thing I control is my response to the disapproval. If someone doesn’t approve of my hair—that’s okay. I respond in one of two ways: Approach A—salvage my feelings and try to just move on. I mean really…I could invest a lot of head space worrying about it but it won’t do me any good. So it is better for me to just try to erase it from my memory and move on. And that’s the easy one. Get over it and move on. And then there is Approach B: try to find out WHY they don’t approve. This one is much harder. It involves dialogue which can be difficult because it typically involves differing OPINIONS. You have to be willing to listen and think about it from another person’s POV. Then…hopefully…they will extend the same respect in return. We all want to be respected. Of course—I want you to love my hair, too, but if you don’t…you don’t! And that’s okay!
