edit: by no means am I hating on anyone, a lot of you took this video the wrong way. I would NEVER judge someone for what they don’t know, I’m just trying to spread awareness. was I saying a gaited horse can’t barrel race? no. should it be done? probably not, but at the end of the day it your horse, your choice. the reason I tell people it shouldn’t is because it does in fact mess up their hocks and stifles, gaited horses are bred for endurance, and are built WITHOUT a diagonal. if you are competing at low level then it’s not a problem and won’t cause any long term effects, but if you are pushing the horse and trying to clock 1d you should probably figure something else out. and it messes up their gait, if you don’t care about that then it doesn’t really matter, but once you start speed events with them it will be extremely hard to get them back in that gait. alot of you were saying I don’t know anything about gaited breeds, but my family owns and breeds them, I’ve ridden probably over 60 of different gaited horses, I have lots of knowledge on them. but as long as you are taking good care of the horse and putting their needs first, it’s all good. I hope all of you reach your goals, on a gaited horse or not, don’t come at me because I didn’t mean anything bad. I’m so so sorry if I offended some of ya’ll 😭
