When you are a builder there is no down time. Seriously. Always something front and center needing taken care of. Today we have a bad freeze on the way. Not for many parts of the US but for us in North Texas it is. So I'm in Frisco making sure it's all ok and ready for the cold weather. Turning off water and draining sewer and water is huge with a freeze on the way or there can be serious issues. Must be taken seriously. I enjoy my job but it's a huge amount of responsibility. Game on. This is the most important part of a retaining wall. Footing with steel and deep piers. The inside structure and the overall strength including the drainage and gravel inside these walls have to be done correctly for these to hold up over time. We simply can't do minimum engineering or half ass work or we face failure over time. We have worked too hard over 25 years of building the incredible to have failures now. One thing that's hard with building new homes is some of the things really isn't anyones job or responsibility. Covering the sewer line doesn't even happen for a while. It gets covered up when we grade around the slab before framing materials get to the jobsight. That's a huge issue because these rock wall guys need to be able to bring concrete down to pour the rest of the footings. Once they do they will bring rock in to start the walls. They worked with me covering this sewer pipe and we did sand and then gravel because global movement in Frisco soils. Now they are excited to have a path to continue with their work. We got the green tag for plumbing rough yesterday late afternoon. This morning Tim Longs plumbers came by and emptied the main sewer and put the cap on so we can cover that area then put test ball at the clean outs and filled it back up so we have water in the pipes as we start digging the beams and grading the slab. We just covered the sewer line, rock wall guys are getting footing ready to pour, and concrete guys just got here to dig beams and get the cables and steel in. We have a strong team.
