Lots of our guests have asked about our giraffe Mashamba so we’re here to answer them! Our 6-year-old giraffe Mashamba is currently recovering from a skin infection that was caused by an illness she had over the summer. You may have seen the large scab present on her shoulder on your last Zoo visit and we’re thrilled that she’s improving and healing every day! Mashamba participates in her own healthcare and allows her caretakers to administer a topical treatment on the scab to help it heal. Just like when we have a scab and it gets a little itchy, the same goes for Mashamba! Our expert caretaker and vet teams are continuing to monitor her and regularly treat the wound with the topical treatment and other medications. Mashamba is returning to her normal routine including spending time with the whole herd and participating in giraffe feedings. We are so thankful that Mashamba is improving every day, coming out of her illness on the upside and we look forward to many more years of her being a member of our giraffe herd! #okczoo #animalcare #veterinarycare #giraffes #animalwellness
