Cathi walks through the crowded shelter, her heart heavy. Every kennel is full, and the sounds of barking and whining echo around her. She stops by a Pit Bull Mix. “What a sweet dog,” she says softly. “It’s already neutered—perfect for adoption.” She glances at a mother dog and her nursing puppies, freshly surrendered. “People surrender their pets every day,” she sighs. “They say things like, ‘They chewed something,’ or, ‘We’re moving.’ But it’s not the shelter’s fault. It’s a people problem.” Cathi doesn’t dwell. She’s here to help.
