#greenscreen Ever heard of #SkylineChili? The unofficial #state food of #Ohio, #Skyline is the largest #chain selling #CincinnatiChili, a unique regional dish that perhaps resembles a #Greek #mousaka slightly more than what most #American's (especially those in #Texas) consider to be '#chili.' Traditionally, #Cincy chili is served over #spaghetti, in whats known as a 3-way (spaghetti, chili, cheese), adding onions makes it a 4-way, beans a 5-way. #Coneys are what the #hotdogs are called, but there are also chili burritos (#chilitos), salads, baked potatoes, and straight up bowls on the menu. #Cincinnati absolutely loves their chili, so much so that Skyline's competitor, #GoldStar, itself has 85 locations, primarily selling Cincinnati Chili (though Gold Star has burgers and milkshakes as well). No city on the planet has more chili restaurants than Cincinnati, Ohio, where Skyline, Gold Star, and a plethora of local spots like #PriceHillChili, #DixieChili, #BlueAshChili, #PleasantRidgeChili, #CampWashingtonChili, and so many more serve ways and coneys, totaling about 250 restaurants in #GreaterCincinnati (meaning the states of Ohio, #Indiana, and #Kentucky have both chains, and #Florida also has Skyline). Its estimated that Cincinnatians eat over 2 million pounds of cheese atop Cincinnati chili each year, and Skyline's annual revenue surpassed $175m in 2024.

18 years ago today, on a dusty battlefield South of Baghdad, we lost an incredible human being. SFC Keith Callahan, our platoon sergeant, best friend, and mentor to a whole company of paratroopers. I remember we occupied a nice compound on the river, which, in the end, probably wasn't a good idea looking back on it. It was lacking in multiple exits, and its location was right on the river. We knew the enemy always put a significant land obstacle between us and them during a fight. We air-assaulted in by helicopter late that night and searched different locations until early morning. We picked the house pictured below. The following day, my squad was tasked with conducting a resupply landing zone recon, which was supposed to happen later that night. I remember waking Keith up to get ready to move out. When he got up, one of the first things he did was talk to the family that owned the house, and he talked to the little girl. Keith was a caring father with kids about the same age as the girl. My squad, Keith, and the medic moved out on patrol. It was a beautiful morning, and it took some time to get to the LZ. The rest of the platoon was in a security posture at the patrol base (house). As we got to the LZ and started the recon. Keith was looking to see if we could see if the LZ was suitable for a helicopter. As we started to do that, all hell broke out at the patrol base. It was an incredible noise of small arms fire and explosions. We immediately worked our way back to link in with the platoon. Keith was fired up and a very aggressive guy. He didn't like the fact that the enemy was shooting at his boys. Man, was he pissed! As we returned, we devised a plan to take it to the bad guys. Keith told me to get my squad ready to move out. So I did just that. That is seen in the picture with Keith facing us in the fire in the back. The problem was that there was only one way out; it was through the gate that was on fire. We waited for the fire to die, and we got to it. The rest of the platoon, led by SSG Cooke and the PL, was in the fight when this happened, as seen in the smokey picture and the picture of the M240 machine gun team on the ground. We didn't know this at the time, but the picture of Keith with the fire was taken moments before his death. As we pushed through the gate, I directed my lead team to push left off the road along a wall. Keith and DOC went straight along the road. I got the squad online, and we pushed through along the left side of the road. It was a movement to contact. We heard another explosion, and I thought it was more indirect fire, so I moved the squad into an abandoned building. We set up security, and the PL, 1LT Branch, and his RTO came to my location. He told us that Keith had died. He hit an IED and was killed. The medic was with him, but he didn't sustain any injuries. We couldn't believe it! I was in shock. We couldn't stop because the fight was still ongoing. All I could think about was his wife receiving the bad news. The Heim family was close to the Callahans, and my wife and Dody were best friends. Keith was a true hero; he fought and did what he loved, leading paratroopers in combat. You never thought that a guy like him would fall in combat. We looked at him like he was invincible. Unfortunately, he wouldn't be the last man to fall on that deployment. As a young squad leader, Keith falling on the battlefield meant I had to step up and be the platoon sergeant in the middle of combat. We still had more days of this mission. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. I thought, how and how do I fill his shoes, and how can I lead these men in the future. He was a stud top-tier NCO who was a true badass that will ever be an 82nd Airborne Divison legend. Keith was a loving father, husband, and American Patriot. The company loved him and was devastated by his loss. Rest in peace, brother! Airborne. SFC Keith A. Callahan "Bam Bam" 24 JAN 2007, Iraq. #hero #ripwarrior #82ndairborne #goldstar
