Every time I do the bottom wash on a painting I hold my breath💀 Even though I know the pencil isn’t going anywhere I’m always afraid the sketch will wash away. (Also gave a clue to my next big painting at the end…super excited🤩) Here’s a couple tips I’ve learned: ~You don’t have to do a wash! However if you have a really detailed painting I’ve found that I like having that extra layer there, like a security blanket🫣 ~Don’t worry about the sketch blurring a little bit, it’s still gonna be there! ~However make sure you thin out your paint enough! (Acrylic, water..oil, solvent…you get the idea) ~don’t make your wash too dark! The paint you use should be a little lighter in color. Mine was almost too dark here so I thinned it out more. Sometimes people will even use neon colors as a wash and let the bottom peek out👀 ~Everyone has different ways of doing things and none of them are solely correct, do what works for you! Comment below if you have any tips that are super important for that first wash:) ~ ~ ~
