Many years ago (I think I was 22 at the time; I wish I had gone sooner), I attended a modeling / acting school for 1.5 years. During that time, I practiced and polished my modeling walk, learned different steps and turns, worked on eye contact, and truly transformed my relationship with my body. One of the most impactful experiences was being on stage despite being scared—it helped me build my confidence. However, it wasn’t until later that I realized how much I was using the skills I learned in modeling school. Whether negotiating contracts with clients at my job, interacting with vendors for my business, or even in romantic situations, compliments on my walk and presence became a regular occurrence. People often said, “You’re so natural.” But let’s not forget—I practiced a lot! I would walk with a book balanced on my head at home, use a broomstick for alignment, and watch my favorite runway shows to mimic the models’ walks. All of this practice laid the foundation for what others saw as “natural. Now, I tell my students: Practice, practice, practice. Bring awareness to your body, your walk, and your movements. So, when someone compliments your walk, you can confidently say, “Thank you, I was born this way.” 👌 (And we’ll keep the practice part a secret 🤐).
