What a time to have the rarest egret in the United States photobomb a shot and try to upstage the Great Blue Heron. When I was filming this, I was so distracted by the heron and its catch that I didn’t even see the Reddish Egret jump into the frame with a fish. It actually caused the heron to pause, which made the video even more interesting. If you have seen any of the many Great Blue Heron videos that I’ve posted in the past, then you know how this is going to end for the poor fish. The fact that this bird somehow gets the fish down past the spiky dorsal fin is incredible. For a moment, they are literally eye to eye. Predator and prey, life and death, the contrasts that exist without color but help tell the story of survival.
