side by side comparison at the end ! 🪻which do you like best? with the right layers or without. when i worked in historical costuming the girls i dressed would try all the time to go without the right layers, only to find that they looked super sloppy, the clothes squished and pinched them in weird places and that everything was too heavy and too long. it seems so strange that all of these layers are necessary, but they really are. especially the corset! #historicalfashion #fashionhistory #corset #historytok

Because there was an inauguration this week, I’m re-sharing the video of the ball gown in the museum’s collection that was worn to an inaugural ball around 150 years ago. Historical records that come with the gowns can be so hit or miss, so it’s exciting when they not only have a solid “date worn” but also a fun event/story tied to them!
