I've seen too many "we're on the brink of a constitutional crisis" posts not to create this. That many Americans today have fewer right than they had even ten years ago should be something of a flag. Liberal nationalists are warning that we’re approaching a constitutional crisis. That if Trump ignores court rulings, if institutions fail, then democracy is in danger. But what if the system has already failed? The Supreme Court handed Trump presumptive immunity for nearly everything he did in office. January 6th led to *zero* meaningful reforms. The Electoral College—designed as a safeguard for enslavers—is still poised to override the majority of voters. And the same people who plotted authoritarian control last time are doing it in the open now. The U.S. has seen real constitutional crises before—the Civil War forced amendments that redefined the country, and Watergate forced accountability measures. But this time? Nothing. No new laws. No structural reforms. Just more handwringing. So what do we do? Forget about weak opposition. Lean into resistance. - History tells us institutions don’t save people. People save each other. The French Resistance, the Italian partisans, the Polish underground—they fought back when no one was coming to save them. - Power doesn’t concede without pressure. That means local action, mutual aid, direct community organizing—not waiting for a Supreme Court already stacked against democracy to step in. - Every act of pushback matters. Miep Gies, who risked everything to hide Anne Frank’s family, said it best: “Even an ordinary secretary or a housewife or a teenager can, in their own way, turn on a small light in a dark room.” The Constitution is already burning. Stop waiting for someone to tell you it’s a crisis—it’s been one. #HistoryMatters #Authoritarianism #Resistance #Democracy #PublicHistory #honesthistory

The war for honest history is now a guerrilla fight. And here is a long video to explain it all. The National Endowment for the Humanities has been reprogrammed to fund nationalist mythmaking instead of real public history. Now funding will go to sanitized, celebratory history that promotes "patriotic education." Museums, historic sites, and public historians now face a choice. #PublicHistory #HonestHistory #NEH #HistoryMatters #resistancehistory #GuerrillaHistory #roguehistory #america250 #taskforce250 #1776commission #patrioticeducation

📚 In 1918, Texas Rangers murdered 15 innocent Mexican-American men in their sleep. Their crime? Being Mexican in Texas. No weapons found. No Rangers injured. Just 15 families destroyed forever. ⚠️ This isn’t ancient history. The children of Porvenir survivors are still alive today, fighting for justice their families never received. They dragged fathers and sons from their beds at midnight. By sunrise, Porvenir was painted red. The Rangers claimed “self-defense” - against unarmed farmers and merchants who were American citizens. The most shocking part? This story was erased from history books. But not anymore. Share if you believe every victim deserves to have their story told. 🕊️ Tag someone who needs to learn this history. Knowledge is power, and silence is violence. #RememberPorvenir #HiddenHistory #HistoryMatters #MexicanAmerican #Mexicantok #Mexican #Latino #NeverAgain #TeachTheTruth #UntoldHistory #JusticeForPorvenir #LatinxHeritageMonth #Texas

The NEH Is Now Enforcing an Ideological Purge of Public History The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) just implemented sweeping restrictions on what can—and cannot—be funded with federal humanities grants. Under new executive orders from the Administration, NEH awards may no longer support: ❌ Projects that acknowledge gender as a historical or social factor ❌ Work that engages with racial equity or systemic discrimination ❌ Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in museums, education, or public history ❌ Environmental justice research or storytelling The most dangerous and deliberate piece of this crackdown? The introduction of “discriminatory equity ideology”—a term manufactured to redefine efforts to address systemic discrimination as discrimination itself. What does this actually mean? This language does not prohibit discrimination. It prohibits talking about it. The executive order defines “discriminatory equity ideology” as any framework that: 🚫 Suggests that historical oppression still has systemic consequences today 🚫 Acknowledges that privilege and oppression are shaped by race, gender, or national origin 🚫 Argues that neutrality, objectivity, or meritocracy can be used to uphold discrimination 🚫 Suggests that the United States has ever been fundamentally racist or sexist This is not about fairness. This is a targeted attack on historical truth—one designed to erase the realities of racism, sexism, and oppression from federally funded history and public scholarship. What does this mean for public history, museums, and independent media? ⚠️ Expect major shifts in what kinds of documentaries, museum exhibits, and history projects get funded. ⚠️ Museums and cultural institutions will be forced to self-censor—or lose funding. ⚠️ Federal grant support for projects exploring race, gender, labor, and environmental history will dry up. This is not just about controlling history—it’s about controlling who gets to tell it. #resistancehistory #publichistory #resistance #historymatters #honesthistory

The only surviving law from the Alien & Sedition Acts of 1798 is now being invoked by Trump to fast-track mass deportations. That law is the Alien Enemies Act, and it’s not just an outdated footnote in American history—its a living legacy of the Patriots that includes helping to justify the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. The Patriots created legal tools—like the Alien Enemies Act—that explicitly targeted immigrants, stifled dissent, and kept power in the hands of the few. Trump and his allies now cite this 18th-century law to sidestep due process, showing just how enduring these exclusionary tactics can be. I also share a few recommended reads that connect the dots between 1798 and the modern day. From Terri Diane Halperin’s detailed study of the Alien & Sedition Acts, to Erika Lee’s sweeping history of xenophobia in America, to Greg Robinson’s account of how the Alien Enemies Act contributed to Japanese American internment—these works remind us that none of this is new or accidental. We need to confront the real history behind our founding myths if we ever want to break free of them. #AlienEnemiesAct #PatriotMyth #HonestHistory #publichistory #JohnAdams #japaneseamerican #HistoryMatters #americanhistory #taskforce250 #1776commission #howrevolutionary #gwmountvernon #georgewashington #patriots

The NEA Has Been 1776’d—And the NEH Is Next The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) just canceled all grants applications and is forcing every applicant to reapply under new ideological guidelines. Now, if you want funding, your project should align with America250—which is functionally the 1776 Commission’s nationalist history agenda under "Task Force 250". What’s changed? - Challenge America program—gone. That was the NEA’s funding stream for small, diverse, and community-based arts projects. Now, those groups must compete under the new general rules. - Five-year history requirement added. This isn’t the usual thing about proving experience—it’s a loyalty test to vet applicants for ideological alignment. If your work over the last five years hasn’t already fit their nationalist mold, you’re probably out. - The NEA and NEH chairs now sit on Task Force 250. This is not a coincidence. The purge isn’t stopping at the arts. What does this mean for history? - The NEH is next. Expect museums, public history projects, and documentaries to be forced into “patriotic” narratives—or lose funding entirely. - Honest history is on the chopping block. Work that confronts slavery, Indigenous dispossession, systemic racism, or oppression will be defunded. - This is ideological control. They don’t just want to rewrite history—they want to decide who gets to tell it. What now? - Talk about this. Make sure people know. - If you’re a filmmaker, historian, or educator, lean into independent funding sources, such as @seedandsparkhq, that aren’t compromised. - Watch what gets funded—and question why. Because if they control the funding, they control the stories. #resistancehistory #america250 #neh #nea #HistoryMatters #PublicHistory #honesthistory #Resistance #Authoritarianism #filmmaker #documentary @docorg

Join me on an unforgettable journey through history as I walk in the footsteps of civil rights leaders on a powerful #CivilRightsTrailtour. From Atlanta, Georgia, to Selma, Alabama, I had the honor of meeting Mr. #charlesmauldin, an iconic civil rights leader who marched alongside John Lewis during the #SelmaVotingRightsAct marches. This experience was more than just a history lesson—it was a deeply moving and eye-opening encounter with the past. We visited the church in Selma where marchers organized, stood outside John Lewis’s Atlanta home, and even learned about a lesser-known teachers’ march. But the most profound moment was marching across the historic #EdmundPettusBridge with Mr. Maldrin himself. The emotions were overwhelming—invigorating, mobilizing, and sobering all at once. As we honor Black History Month, let’s remember the sacrifices and courage of those who paved the way for justice and equality. I hope this video inspires you to reflect, learn, and continue the fight for civil rights. #BlackHistoryMonth #BHM #selma2025 #CivilRightsTrail #SelmaMarch #EdmundPettusBridge #JohnLewis #GoodTrouble #VotingRights #TeachersMarch #HistoryMatters #CivilRightsMovement #AtlantaHistory #Selma #WalkWithHistory #SocialJustice #EducationMatters #BlackHistory

The authoritarians in power think they own history. They think they can decide who existed, who mattered, and who gets erased. They’re wrong. The National Park Service, under orders from Trump, has scrubbed transgender and queer from the history of Stonewall. They’ve reduced LGBTQ+ to LGB. They’re trying to rewrite history to fit their ideology, erasing the very people who led the fight. But Stonewall wasn’t just an uprising—it was a battle of the real American Revolution, the one that’s fought in hearts and minds. The people who stood up that night in 1969 were patriots, fighting for freedom, for dignity, for the right to exist. And now, just like then, those in power want to erase them. Every Resistance Historian, every public historian, every person who refuses to let the past be rewritten—this is your call to action. Protect history by projecting it. Boost the voices they want silenced. Tell the stories they want erased. Today, we are all Stormie Delavier. But our bricks are digital. Throw them. #resistancehistory #publichistory #resistance #historymatters #honesthistory #lgbtqhistory #transhistory #Stonewall #AmericanRevolution @Amanda W. Timpson @Torri Yates-Orr @Edward T. This isn’t “patriotic education.” It’s a wave of pseudohistory, poised to sweep away honest accounts of the past and replace them with a shiny, feel-good fantasy. But I’m looking at all the people in our community, all saying: “Not on our watch.” Marc Bloch reminded us that “any compromise with untruth” is the deepest form of corruption. And Tennyson, speaking through Ulysses, gave us this rallying cry: “Though much is taken, much abides; and though / We are not now that strength which in old days / Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are, / One equal temper of heroic hearts, / Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will / To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.” That’s exactly who we are: a battalion of public historians, educators, and everyday truth-tellers who may feel weaker than we did in simpler times, but who refuse to bow to falsehood. They can defund archives, gut the NEH, and muzzle the Smithsonian, but they can’t erase our connection to each other. Our job now is to channel those lines from Tennyson into the digital sphere, the classroom, the family dinner table, and yes—every corner of the internet where we simply click “like” on someone else’s post in defense of reality. We’ll keep telling unvarnished, inclusive, and evidence-based history. We’ll keep calling out the propaganda and mythologies that masquerade as fact. We’ll keep each other honest. Because the tsunami only wins if we stand aside and watch it roll in. And judging by the numbers, we won’t yield. #ResistanceHistory #PublicHistory #HonestHistory #america250 #taskforce250 #1776commission #HistoryMatters #Resistance

Because the tsunami only wins if we stand aside and watch it roll in. And judging by the numbers, we won’t yield. #ResistanceHistory #PublicHistory #HonestHistory #america250 #taskforce250 #1776commission #HistoryMatters #Resistance
