When I'm anxious, I dust jars. So many of us find peace and happiness in the calm beauty of mother nature. It’s what fuels me every day of my life. But we are again reminded, with the wind and fires in Los Angeles, that her furry can take everything in a blink of an eye. My heart aches knowing so many people have lost their homes and I’m anxiously waiting to here if my Angeleno friends and old work colleagues homes are safe and sound. Truly devastating. When these natural disasters happen, I always find myself reassessing our preparedness for emergencies. I refill water jugs, change batteries in flashlights and smoke detectors, freeze-dry and dehydrate food packed in mylar bags for quick grab and go, put blankets in my car and restock the first-aid kit. You know, things that just give me some peace of mind in an otherwise helpless time. My family suffered a kitchen fire about 8 years ago that badly burned my husband's face, arms and chest, while he was trying to save me. 😥 It took him over a year to physically heal. Took me even longer to emotionally recover. The fire forever changed our family. We even have a son who is working as an EMT, on his way to becoming a fire-fighter, because of our experience. Tragedies change you. The journey to regroup and rebuild is just beginning for so many. My LA friends, you are deep in my thoughts and prayers.
