Just a little slice of real life as we celebrated my oldest’s 7th yesterday. Haley had a harder time understanding it wasn’t her birthday when it came to the cake and candles. Spencer had his own moment earlier with the presents only being for Cassidy. Even with those little hiccups, it was such a sweet, simple day. At this point, I just know it’s part of the deal. Birthdays—like holidays or any big event—are a lot for kids. Honestly, they’re a lot for adults too. The emotions run high, there’s so much excitement, and sometimes it all just bubbles over. With Christmas around the corner, I’m already bracing myself. There will probably be meltdowns, some sibling bickering, and tears over something completely random (because, of course). But here’s the thing—it doesn’t have to be perfect to be magical. The magic isn’t in everything going right; it’s in the little moments that stick, even when the day is a bit of a mess. And yes, kids are little a-holes sometimes, but they’re our a-holes. So here’s to a Christmas full of love, laughter, chaos, and memories. Perfectly imperfect as it should be. .
