Blanketing is a “hot topic” and idk why, it’s pretty simple. The horse is shaking, blanket. It goes below freezing and your horses winter coat isn’t thick, blanket. Your horse is underweight or old, blanket. It’s gonna rain and it’s super cold out, blanket to keep them dry. Ellie is turnout 24/7 horses need forage to eat 24/7! She gets a flake of alfalfa in the evenings- before when she was skinner she got a flake am + pm - I used to give soaked alfalfa pellets, beet pulp, and I tried alfalfa cubes, and nothing put weight on her like actual alfalfa hay!
