Do you struggle making new friends in midlife? This topic comes up often in my community and will be part of my Confidence Collective workshops next year. So many find it challenging—how to make new friends at this age, where to meet and find new friends, being scared to put yourself out there for fear of being rejected. It’s a common thread that becomes tougher when we are faced with changes like new jobs, empty nest syndrome, divorce in midlife, etc. I have always felt very lucky and at ease in putting myself out there in new friendships. When I feel a connection, I call it out. Sure, there’s always a chance that the other person won’t feel it and may reject me, but it’s a chance I’m willing to take. Because my deepest and most profound friendships have been born this way— in a fleeting connection in a women’s room, on a dance floor, at a mutual friend’s party. And you know what? I’ve never been rejected. Because they felt it too. Someone just has to be brave enough to say it. It’s no different than when we were kids… sometimes you just have to walk up to somebody on the playground and ask them if they want to play. 😉 So I want to give you a challenge: when you feel a connection, say you feel it. Put yourself out there. Take the chance. This is how I make friends 🫂❤️🩹 Thank you @vmelodiie for being a friend to me. I am so thankful for your time. Tips on How to make friends with strangers: 1: say hi and and ask for their name. Give your name too. (If they seem not interested nteresting 🤨 this is were you walk away. Even if they yell at you. Just stay polite and walk away.) 2: ask good question. after each question, take a breath and wait for a moment of silence before asking another question. See if they want to continue the conversation or if they look like they want to leave. If they don’t ask you a question back. They probably want to leave. Say thank you and walk away 3: keep the conversation interesting, respectful and entertaining. It’s their duty to also keep the conversation going. If at anytime you feel awkward, it might be time to leave. 4: keep going until someone makes an offer to exchange info to hangout again. Or something it’s just a once in a life time moment and you don’t need to ask for info. 5: send a thank you message and try to make plans as soon as possible. If they agree to them. They are interested. If they make excuses without a counter offer. They are not interested. Example: this is for friendship making only not dating or love. You: that was so fun. I feel good today. Haven’t feel that kind connection in a while. Thank you for your time! Would love to do that again soon! Them : yes 🙌 thank you for saying hi. Let’s watch the sunset again sometime. You: are you down to go watch the sunset maybe this up coming week oe the next?
