If you’re thinking about pulling your child out of public school to start homeschooling, this is exactly how I would do it. I constantly get questions from parents who are having a really hard time with the school system and want to start homeschooling, but have no idea where to start. And honestly, I completely understand how intimidating and scary this whole journey can be. We are all so conditioned to believe that we have to be in a system that tells us where to go, when to go, what to do, and how to do it. So jumping into the world of homeschooling feels so unnatural because now we are left to figure out all these things for ourselves and for our children’s education. This process being in a step-by-step format like this is what helped me to start homeschooling and will hopefully help other new homeschooling families as well. The number one thing I can say is to know your homeschool laws before making any decisions unless there’s an emergency situation where you need to pull your kid out immediately. You can find your state homeschool laws on your states school board website or HSLDA is a wonderful resource. If your state requires a homeschooling letter of intent, you can find templates for this online that you can simply just print out, fill out, and send to your school district. Let me know if you need help finding this and I will help you! All of these steps are optional with the exception of knowing your homeschool laws. Everybody homeschool is differently and every family is different so don’t feel like you have to do things this way. But for me, finding a curriculum and nailing down a schedule was extremely important to our success as a homeschooling family!
