I’m always open to sharing axel tips + tricks because I struggled with this jump for a longtime and want to help other skaters avoid the mistakes I made when I first started this jump. I learned this jump from scratch as an adult so I completely understand how frustrating and intimidating this jump can be. The waltz jump + back spin is the BEST way to get comfortable with landing your first axel! 1. Curve your waltz jump takeoff more than you think you should. The axel does rotate a little bit on the ice before taking off. 2. Avoid a flat takeofff edge 3. Avoid curving a full turn on the ice before taking off (if you followed those arrows and continued to pivot on the ice a full turn it would be cheated) 4. Over rotate the landing of your waltz jump into the back spin.
