Eating the world one bite at a time - Episode 18 🌍🍴
#EatingTheWorld #Episode18 Also.. this is a jellyfish! Not an octopus… that was an error in my speech @authenticteecee 🐙 Extra Bites: ✨Jellyfish Crunch: Preserved with salt and alum to maintain crunchiness without refrigeration. Salt draws moisture out, while alum keeps it firm, similar to rigor mortis (when humans die our protein structure changes making us firm). However, the protein restructure that happens from alum is reversible for jellyfish. ✨Reproductive Wonders: Adult jellyfish can release up to 100,000 eggs & sperm, starting a cycle that massively expands their population. The eggs and sperm become polyps. Each polyp can produce numerous jellyfish, continuing a never-ending cycle of reproduction. ✨Defying Death: A species of jellyfish, known as the ‘Immortal Jellyfish’ (Turritopsis dohrnii), has the astonishing ability to revert to its juvenile form after reaching adulthood, essentially allowing it to potentially live forever, under the right conditions. ✨ The Lion’s Mane Jellyfish is a marvel of the ocean, holding the title as the largest jellyfish species. Astonishingly, it can have a bell diameter of up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) and tentacles that extend over 120 feet (36 meters) long. This size makes it not just a giant of the marine world but a true testament to the incredible diversity and scale of ocean life, often leaving audiences in awe of what lurks beneath the sea’s surface.
