Lets talk sensory bins 👇🏼 If you’re anything like me, I was seeing them everywhere. They all looked picture perfect, so much fun, and like they came straight off of Pinterest. As busy parents, who has the time and energy for that?! Not me, that’s for sure. And then I tried them. And boy, I was wrong. Here’s the thing with sensory bins: ❤️ They can be as simple or as extravagent as you want. Dollar store is the real MVP when it comes to fillers. 🧡 You could put literally anything in a container and call it a sensory bin. We’ve done dried beans, oats, water, ice cubes, shredded paper, rice, sand, bubbles, aquafaba (chick pea foam), chia slime, pudding, you name it. 💛 They LAST. (Most of) them are not a one-time thing. Obviously ones like water, bubbles, or pudding are but dry fillers can be saved and reused over and over again. Just store in ziploc bags! 💚 They’re open-ended which means your child has to use their skills and imagination to play (which is INCREDIBLE for their brain development). There’s no right or wrong way to play. 💙 You can put literally anything on top of your “filler”. Scoops, cups, tongs, strainers, droppers, Easter eggs, etc. The possibilities are endless - and excellent for fine motor skill development! 💜 They encourage independent play. This is a BIG one for me. I love to pull these out in a pinch or while I’m making dinner. That way, my kids are near me but I can still get stuff done. 💖 They can be as clean or as messy as you want. Concerned about the mess? Do them outside. Stuck inside? Put a towel underneath. Easy clean up! ✨ they’re also a great opportunity to talk about BOUNDARIES. “This stays inside the bin. If we can’t keep it in the bin, we’ll have to put it away and try again later” Take a deep breath and give it a try. You’ll might be surprised at how simple it really is.
