Almost time for Brigid's day! This year I'm weaving a crios (traditional Irish belt) inspired by a story of her life partner and anam cara (soul friend) Darlughdach who was her fellow nun. Last year was the 1500th anniversary of Brigid's death so this year is the 1500th anniversary of Darlughdach's death who died exactly a year after her beloved. #irishcrios #criosweaving #inkleloom #handweaving #irishmythology #irishtraditionaloutfit #Brigid #queerhistory
Leave out any bit of cloth, ribbon, a scarf, or even a jacket to be blessed by Brigid tonight and to be your Brat Bhríde for the year! They are said to ward off internal hurts (especially headaches), protect livestock, and guard against danger at sea. You either wrap it around your head or incorporate it into your clothing. This crios (traditional Irish belt) is inspired by the story of Darlughdach and the hot coals! Don't go stepping out on your anam cara or you will find your steps a bit hotter than desired. Anam cara (soul friends) is a concept found in early monastic life. It's was a complex lifelong partnership that centered on shared faith and love. This crios is available in my shop! #irishtraditionaloutfit #irishmythology #irishdiaspora #irishcrios #irishfolklore #brigid
I took advantage of the cold weather to take some snowy pictures of this crios. Inspired by the description of Naoise from the legend of Deirdre of the sorrows. Moral of the story don't arrange a marriage between just born babies and full grown kings. That's weird. and when in doubt blame Conchobar Mac Nessa. This crios is available in my shop. #irishfolklore #irishcrios #naoise #deirdre #irishdiaspora #irishmythology #irishtraditionaloutfit
Reposted from last year and still just as relevent! Our friends still need so much help. You know where you can look if you are able to help directly ❤️ The brat bhríde tradition is to leave out a scarf, cloth, or ribbon on the eve of Brigid's day which will then be blessed by her and ward off headaches and give protection for the year. Idea to use the kufiya was from @Kate #bratbhríde #irishfolklore #irishmythology #Brigid

Blessed Imbolc! 🕯️ May the returning light warm our hearts & minds and may Brigid bless us with the inspiration to imagine brighter days ahead.🕯️✨ Imbolc falls on February 1st, halfway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. This festival is associated with the goddess Brigid, the Irish goddess of fire, fertility, spring, healing, and poetry. I’ve depicted her wearing a crown of greenery and snowdrops with three candles to represent her triple nature. The fire of the hearth, the fire of the forge, and the fire of inspiration. 🔥 #imbolc #imbolcblessings #brigid #irishmythology #celticmythology #goddess #goddessart #goddesses #wheeloftheyear #pagan #paganart #paganwitch
