Pregnancy Craving 🥪🇮🇹 Foods like deli meats are often flagged as no-go’s for pregnancy because of the risk of listeria (which, to be clear, is not good). However, heating the meat to 165F and keeping it at that temp for at least a couple minutes kills the listeria bacteria. Food can be re-contaminated, but that’s only if it comes back into contact with more live bacteria. So, if you’re washing your hands and the surfaces the deli meat touched, you should be fine. Also, not all deli meat is infected with listeria! In fact, it’s likely not. Obviously, at the end of the day, we all just have to do what we’re each comfortable with and feel good about. Listeria is found in tons of different foods, including raw vegetables, but no one’s avoiding those. Any food can be infected, but certain foods just have more of a history of contamination than others. Like with anything, you have to weigh the risks/benefits for yourself. That being said, for anyone with a craving like this that *just doesn’t quit*, I think steaming the meat is a good option. Also, any other women that are/have been pregnant completely over the amount of fear-mongering pregnant women get?? Some of it’s warranted, I get it, but some of it’s just ridiculous and pregnant women are still demonized mercilessly if they go against it. I just listened to the “Expecting Better” audiobook and they discuss the data behind a lot of pregnancy-related things. It’s crazy what there’s just not good data on, yet we’re made to feel otherwise. ANYWAYS kinda worried that maybe I’ve opened up a can of worms here, so please be kind. We’re all just doing what we think is safe and works for us. 💚 Also, S/O to @mollybaz for the giardiniera mayo craving loll need to get my hands on some @eatayoh . . .
