It’s taken me a week to even look at the rest of my footage of the J’s and K’s close pass at Point Robinson on 1/1/25. As they usually do, the orcas passed us by standers on the shore in small tightknit groups. I was so shocked to hear their vocalizations above water- I usually mute videos where people are loud, but kept it up because of all of the dorsal/pec/tail slaps that were happening at the same time Shortly after this group came Tahlequah and her family. #srkw #jpod #kpod #pnw #earthday
Tahlequah J35 pushing her deceased calf, J61, past Point Robinson Lighthouse on 1/1/25. We must act now to save the SRKW #srkw #jpod #savethewhales
Yesterday we go our first look at the newest calf born in J Pod! The calf has been traveling with J35 Tahlequah, who is the presumed mother. Once researchers are able to get in the water with it they will assign it an alphanumeric ID. After three or more encounters they will confirm the materinity. Calf mortality rate in Southern Resident killer whales is only 50% and the survival of this calf is not guaranteed. The two previous calves, J60 and L128, sadly did not survive. But we are cautiouslly optimisitc. Each new birth represents a glimmer of hope and we hope it inspires people to keep fighting for this incredible population. #jpod #newbaby #southernresidentorcas #southernresidentkillerwhales

One of the joys of living in the Puget Sound region is seeing all the wildlife, including killer whales. “I mean, whales are one of the great features of boating around here,” Tim Hicks told KOMO News. “Being close to a whale is a life-changing experience. It never gets old,” John Gardiner told KOMO News. Boating his entire life, Gardiner said he has seen southern resident whales, transient Biggs, grays and Humpbacks. 🔗 in bio for the full story. #komo #komo4 #komonews #komo4news #seattle #washington #orca #killerwhales #orcas #killerwhale #southernresident #biggs #whales #whale #pod #jpod #pugetsound #4u #fyp #foryou #foryoupage #foryourpage #orcasoftiktok #killerwhaletok #killerwhalesoftiktok #whalewatching #whalesquad🐳 #whalesoftiktok #animals #animalsoftiktok #animalrescue #cuteanimal #cuteanimals #cuteanimalsoftiktok
