Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a man whose dream carried our community through times of unspeakable adversity and into the fight for justice we continue today. This year, MLK Day carries a heavy weight as the world turns its attention to political shifts that, for many of us, feel like a step backward. The inauguration of Donald Trump has left many in our community questioning what lies ahead—our rights, our dignity, and our ability to thrive in a country that often seems determined to overlook us. If Dr. King were here, I believe he would remind us of the resilience that lives within us. He’d remind us that, even in the face of systemic oppression and policies designed to stifle our progress, we have the power to rise. He’d call on us to keep marching, to keep building, and to keep dreaming of a nation that values all its people equally. I also belive that he would have us to have a seat today. Dr. King said, "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." Let those words anchor us in this moment. Despite the challenges ahead, we must remain steadfast in our fight for justice, equality, and opportunity for every Black person in this country. Let’s honor Dr. King today by recommitting ourselves to the values he gave his life for: love, unity, and a relentless pursuit of justice. Let’s organize, support one another, and protect the beauty and strength of our community. No political shift can take away the power we have when we come together.
