ME : 1 // FEAR : 0 we did it anyway, we did it scared! came home feeling so proud of myself today. i just did normal things that i would do in LA : get lunch, go for a movie, go on an hour long walk home. and there were many times where i had to laugh at myself. where i had to get real comfortable not knowing and looking silly. i actually never thought of myself as someone who cared so much about being percieved a certain way, but apparently i am? this has been an excellent exercise in letting go of that bit by bit. letting go of CONTROL. so im not master oogway… literally who cares? nobody is expecting me to be?? im not 1000 yet. one day i will be and that day will be the day i rain hell on all those who doubted me and my power. but until then! getting accustomed to being in progress. 🤩👁️😈🫡🥸 and proud of me for it! #solotravel #solofemaletraveler #kerala #HealingJourney #reconnectingwithmyroots #kozhikode #inprogress #radicalselflove #masteroogway
STORYTIME : The Valiyangadi Market + Vinolia Soap the lore of Kozhikode deepens 😭. actually insane but also i love little local tales like this!! america sorely lacks any kind of belief in folklore or legend, we often are so quick to dismiss these stories as just people exaggerating or being dramatic, but i find it quite endearing that this tale was adopted by so many traders just as a sign of goodwill and success in their trading center. and how it was again colonized by the british for their own benefit… 🤬🤒😬👹 anywho - very cool how many types of rice this shop had. we got to chat with the owner, he was lovely! def pay it a visit if you go. #solofemaletraveler #solotravel #kerala #reconnectingwithmyroots #kozhikode #travel #folklore #legend #locallegends
STORYTIME : Mishkal Mosque last stop on my Kozhikode walking tour. this story is super interesting. i think it’s important to note that while these religious communities have their issues alone and with each other - there are many instances of “religious harmony” in Kerala. this story is just one example. i also wanted to showcase a little of the other cultural diversity. in addition to a Sindhi community, there is also a Gujurati corner where many Gujarati merchants and families still reside to this day. The Portuguese “Mother of God” church sits right across from the first official school built in Kerala - the St Joseph’s School for Boys - which was built 200 years after the Portuguese massacred many Kozhikodan citizens but c’est la vi i suppose! Kozhikode’s history is super fascinating and no doubt there are many more stories to share - but we will be moving on to my next stop… Kannur :) #solotravel #solofemaletraveler #kerala #reconnectingwithmyroots #kozhikode #travel #travelstories #localstories #keralastories #mishkalmosque
DAY 4 of 87 : Walking Tour of Kozhikode Part 1 of this tour showcases a little history of the Zamorins of Kozhikode and a glimpse into the wide range of religious sites located in the city. i’m very fascinated by the history of this city. it has such a rich legacy. this whole state has such a rich legacy. excited to keep exploring. part 2 tmrw! #kozhikode #reconnectingtomyroots #solofemaletraveler #kerala #solotravel #HealingJourney #travel #diversity
