House Obituary #1: Valentine House - 1915-2025 Since the Eaton Fire, I’ve been on pins and needles to see which homes I’d covered over the years made it, it was confirmed to me in an email from Altadena Heritage that this home located at 2800 Holliston didn’t make it 😢 Last spring I made a video on its history when I went for its open house. I fell in love with this story and in honor of its legacy, I am resharing again because even though it is gone - its history shouldn’t be. ❤️‍🩹 Original Caption 👇 If you’ve always wanted to own a historic home in the wilderness with a fun story to tell, this could be the one. Originally built in 1915 by George Webster for Walter Valentine, and then re-designed in 1922 by Henry Greene - it is a stupendously strange layout but my goodness does it have a fun story. There are 4 “Valentine Cottages” that Walter had built and then re-designed in the American Arts & Crafts style by Henry Greene but they are all private homes and rarely go on the market which makes getting to see this such a special treat! ✨Sources - The Los Angeles Times Archives - 1916 Los Angeles Directory - 1920 Los Angeles Census (ancestry.com) - Berkeley Archives . . #lahistorygirl #losangeles #lahistory #altadena #eatonfire #lafires #greeneandgreene #historichome #hometour #altadenaca #altadenahistory #history #artsandcraftshome #craftsmanarchitecture #houseobituary

It may be January, and a lot of people have sworn off gluten and dairy this month, but this is one historic Los Angeles bakery worth cheating on your diet for. Welcome to the newly opened @helmsbakery !!! originally opened in 1931, this beloved bakery and the ONLY bakery that can say they sent the first bread to the moon, only lasted until 1969 but thanks to @chefsangyoon this LA icon is back and making delicious baked goods once again. 🍞Know Before You Go🍞 - Open 8am to 3pm Wed-Sun Sources - helmsbakerydistrict.com - “The Long-Awaited Helms Bakery Is Finally Reopening in Culver City After 12 Yemanyars” by Matthew Kang, Oct 30th, 2024 la.eater.com - laconservancy.org . . #LAhistorygirl #losangeles #losangeleshistory #LAhistory #culvercity #helmsbakery #labakery #thingstodoinla #architecturelover #laconservancy #historiclandmark #historicbuilding #artdeco #eaterla #lacontentcreator #history #historyreels #bestbakeriesinla #matcha best places to eat in Los Angeles, places to eat in LA, LA bakeries, LA History. Looking for a beautiful & historic getaway for a night or two? Then you have to check out the @jd_hyde_historic_inn Completed in 1886, this stunning Eastlake Victorian located in Visalia, CA is a true time capsule. You would never know that so much restoration had to be done to the home, but that is in huge thanks to the current owners who have a decades-long history in historic preservation. The home was originally built for one of Visalia’s earliest citizens, Jeremiah Hyde who along with his brother Richard, originally owned parcels of land that would later become a part of both the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Only 4 families have lived in this home and despite it looking like a house a museum where you shouldn’t touch anything; guests are encouraged to use the home as if it were their own, creating a truly unique experience for historic architecture lovers. ✨Know Before You Go✨ 🗝️To Book: https://jdhydehistoricinn.com/ 🗝️Rooms: We stayed in the James Hannah Suite, with rates starting at $174/night 🗝️Each room has its own en suite bathroom 🗝️Daily happy hour for guests 🗝️Morning coffee & pastries provided for guests

Buona Befana!! 🎁 #throwback to this video I made last Jan 5th on the eve of Epiphany where in Italy in certain regions, little boys and girls put out their stockings and some panettone and wine for La Befana - the Italian Christmas Witch! Never heard of her? That’s ok, a lot of people haven’t. In fact, many people believed Disney created her for the Santa Clauses series. The reality is even La Befana is a Christian version of a pagan legend (no shocker there) but she happens to be one of my favorites. I hope everyone that celebrates awoke to something in their stockings this epiphany! So I hope if you’ve never heard of her or this Italian tradition, this is a welcomed little (historical?) legend for you! . #lahistorygirl #labefanaviendinotte #labefana #buonabefana #epiphany #italianttaditions #legends #italian #historytok #paganholiday #themoreyouknow

2024 was a life changing year for me both personally and professionally. I got to travel the world doing both what I love and making family memories that will last a lifetime. I took my mental health more seriously than ever and took major steps into living a happier and more balanced life. I produced two shows, one of which I wrote & hosted. I worked with tourism boards and historic locations I never dreamt of working with and have been able to aid in the ongoing fight to preserve historic landmarks. I’ve gotten to investigate some iconic haunted locations, visited bucket list historic graves, made new friendships and traveled far and wide to celebrate with old ones. I’ve learned that life doesn’t have to just be about ambition and the hustle but also celebrating the small wins, slowing down to enjoy nights with girlfriends over indulgent and too expensive charcuterie boards that you took a lot of pride in making. I’ve fallen deeper in love with my husband, found greater appreciation for my family and along every step and misstep this year, I have been unbearably grateful for all of you. Your support and community has opened my life to opportunities I’ve only ever dreamt of. I am sending all of you a big virtual hug and hope to say hi and thank you in person if our paths ever should cross. Thank you for being a part of my weird, spooky and historical life and allowing me to be me in all my strangeness. Thank you to city of Los Angeles for being such a great place to me and all the other places I’ve had to privilege of reporting on this year. 2025 is bringing the biggest opportunities yet and I’m excited to say I’ll ✨ finally ✨be hosting a walking tour….more details to come. 🖤 Have a fantastic & safe NYE, my lovely Creeps and I’ll see you tomorrow. 💋🍾🥂 . . . #nye #2024recap #2025 #newyearseve #yearinreview #travel #travelblogger #lahistorygirl #lacontentcreator #havehistorywilltravel #winchestermysteryhouse
