5 years ago this week we laid to rest baby Steven Joseph. Here are reflections from my heart about baby Steven’s funeral, and his funeral procession from the funeral home to the cemetery. “The procession from the funeral home Indiana Funeral Care & Crematory to the Washington Park East Cemetary is a sacred journey. I carry the baby to the vehicle and then follow my baby on the final journey to celebrate their life. I feel like time stands still on my quiet car ride. I’m so thankful for Aaron’s provision of honor as we glide through traffic. 1 year ago this week: we laid to rest: Michael, Esther & Harmony. 3 different stories, 1 funeral. We didn’t know all the details around each baby, the backstory, or why… we don’t have to. They were honored. 🤍🖤 Michael, was unclaimed in death, and named by his parents. Now claimed and laid to rest. Esther, was unclaimed in death, and I had the beautiful gift of naming her. Now claimed, named, and laid to rest. Happy Birthday in heaven, Amelia 🩷 We celebrated the 10 year anniversary of Amelia’s finding. She was found in Eagle Creek Park on December 28th, 2014. Indiana has not had an abandoned and deceased baby since her finding. Amelia’s legacy, education about the Safe Haven Law, and the spread of Safe Haven Baby Boxes has changed the landscape for Indiana, and the nation. Amelia’s footprint is on the Safe Haven Baby Box logo, and every mother who chooses to safely and anonymously surrender her precious baby will see her footprint.
