Last Wednesday, January 8th, on the second day of the LA wildfires, we continued to faced an incredibly surreal and heartbreaking experience. That night fires spread into Hollywood and Studio City instilling fear into our bones. Earlier that day a fire broke out in a park just down the street from my house, I packed my bags my heart pounding. Luckily it was contained quickly. One of my best friends had already lost his home in the Palisades, fire raged on in Eaton and Hurst, and I sat in shock, tracking the fires, ready to leave, and checking in with loved ones all day. I knew I needed to process the overwhelming emotions or sleep would not find me that night. I turned to what has always guided me in difficult timesโdance. At 10pm I dressed up, got myself together, and poured everything into choreographing a short tabla piece, which I recorded as a free YouTube class to share with all of you so you can dance and enjoy too. I am endlessly grateful for dance, a gift that continues to guide me through lifeโs storms and fires. I am so moved by how the city of Los Angeles has come together in the face of devastation. My heart is warmed by the resilience and love I see all around me in my city, this city of Angels. Thank you to our firefighters and community coming together to support those impacted. Thank you to all the friends who checked in. Thank you for all the support coming from around the world to control the fires. We will get through this together, I love you!
