This dog would not stop pulling and being WILD on a leash. I then bring him from crazy to calm and engaged. This is how I did that in less than 5 minutes! - Struggling with your dog pulling you everywhere you go? Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram & YouTube! We don’t know how long I’ll be able to help you all on this platform, so follow along to stay in the loop! - What do your walks look like with your dog? - This clip is from a private lesson with a client, where I completely transform a leash pulling, disengaged dog to calm and engaged. When your dog is on a leash, it should be mostly structured. You can walk to a place where you let your dog off-leash, but your dogs fulfillment does not and should never come solely from the walk itself. - Struggling with your dog pulling you everywhere you go? Lots of trainers talk about corrections - but dont give you more than that. So lets talk about it! Consistent tension on the leash without teaching the dog to yield to the pressure = tug of war (leads to leash pulling and sometimes reactivity) Consistent tension on the leash with teaching the dog to yield to pressure = tactile directional luring Leash corrections require: - the dog understanding how to be correct (ie: youve used +R to first teach the behavior and the dog can do the behavior 8/10) - it first requires slack in the leash (if not youre back to fighting/restraining) - corrections shouldnt be done in cases where the dog is behaving maladaptivly due to fear or aggression* For me, if my clients are going to implement corrections - i want them to understand the differences and for me to demonstrate on them and for them to practice on me first as timing and direction are important. #leash #dog #leashtraining #correction #leashwalking #dogleash #dogwalking #looseleash
I NEVER do leash greetings. Here’s why… If my dog’s are off-leash, they can only say hi to people or dogs if I release them. The greeting is never automatic. - What are your thoughts on this rule? Preventing “bad” behaviors from happening in the first place is the EASIEST way to avoid common new dog struggles like potty training, play biting, running away/not coming when called, destructive chewing, and so many more. If you have a new dog, understand that you will save yourself SO MUCH TIME and effort by being proactive and making it unlikely that your dog will have an opportunity to do the “bad” things. This means doing things like coming prepared with a couple of toys made of different textures, before you approach your puppy who you know is going through a teething and puppy biting phase. Or, keeping your dog attached to you in the house while you’re potty training so that you are much more likely to notice their early signs of restlessness, before they have an accident inside. Now, if you’ve adopted a dog who already has some undesirable habits, or if your own dog has somehow developed them despite your best efforts… don’t despair! I’ll show you how to teach your dog to behave in a way that makes both of you happy - and it will probably be much easier than you think! I love you so I’m telling you: STOP trying to teach leash walking outside. Leash walking starts inside for the majority of dog owners. Why do dog trainers start outside? Becauee we have hands on skill and application, years of practice and hundreds (thousands) of dollars of education to teach us how to accomplish that (and do it quickly) But if you’re a dog owner and you aren’t sure how to hold a leash properly. How to hold food properly. Do not have charged verbal markers. Do not know what leash walking drills are - baby you gotta start inside. Make it easy on yourself and your leash walking journey with your dog, ok? Ok ♥️🫶🏼 #leashwalking #leash #leashtraining #dogpulling #DogTraining #looseleash #leashpulling #stopleashpulling #leash #dogleash

Don't get dragged out of your house! A common mistake a lot of dog owners make is not having enough skill sets to accomplish their goals. You won't be able to tell your dog not to get excited to leave the house.... But you can stop them from pulling you or knocking everything over out of the house. Use your down, sit or stay to keep your dog away from the door before you go out the door. #DogTraining #dogbehavior #dogobe #dogobedience #dogtrainingtips #puppytraining #leash #leashtraining #leashyourdog

Does your dog love ANYTHING this much?! 😅 George the pit bull might be the most ball-obsessed dog I have ever worked with. He is certainly in the running! If George detects a ball, even if it’s been sitting still for hours, even if I have freshly cooked chicken right in front of his face, even if I have another ball or anything else he loves to reward him with… George REALLY struggled to leave balls alone. And for a little while, I struggled to figure out how to break through to him. But after a few days of getting to know George plus a lot of brainstorming and experimentation… an unexpected solution revealed itself! In George’s case, there is only one thing that he gets as excited for as every single ball on Earth. It’s not a juicy steak… It’s not a “better” ball… It’s not even what’s inside the bowl you see me using here. George has such a strong positive association with THE BOWL ITSELF - you can imagine how exciting his food bowl was every day while he was living in the animal shelter for months and months. Once I made this connection and started using his actual food bowl while I rewarded him during his more challenging training sessions… everything started to change! Remember, we don’t decide what’s reinforcing to our dogs. I would never have guessed that George would prefer KIBBLE from a bowl over real meat or other versions of his favorite toys. But paying attention to what ACTUALLY motivates George is what helped us break through and finally start making progress on his EXTREME love of balls 🐶❤️⚾️🎾 #DogTraining #puppytraining #dogtrainer #dogtok #dogsoftiktok #dogtrainerlife #pitbull #shelterdog #rescuedog #fosterdog #dogtraining101 #dogtrainingtips #dogtrainingadvice #leashtraining #dogtrainingrevolution

“Be overwhelmingly consistent!” Easy enough, right? 🙃 All good teachers understand how essential this is. And dogs are very good at exploiting a lack of consistency. They will easily decipher how willing you are to stick to your game plan. This comes as no surprise - I mean, we are dealing with a very smart species here! 🐕 But there are times to unwind and do their own thing too. So how do you accomplish that while still being consistent in your training? You’ll need to feel this out with your individual dog, but it’s easy once you get to know each other a little. One classic example is walking on a loose leash. When you’re feeling overwhelmed, leash pulling can be absolutely maddening. In fact, this is one of the hardest things for many people to teach their dogs. So, in the spirit of being “consistent,” you might be tempted to absolutely never advance forward if there is tension on your dog’s leash. But in most cases, your consistency efforts would be much more effective during set-up training sessions in places where your dog is more likely to succeed. If the sidewalk is too challenging, try your driveway, or even your living room. And when you take your dog into those more challenging environments, give them the freedom to explore instead of holding them to training standards they aren’t prepared for yet. All dog trainers know that consistency is important. But you have to balance “consistency” with your dog’s current skill level, and set your expectations accordingly. That’s going to help you get out of your own way, and you and your dog will make progress much faster (and have more fun, too!) #DogTraining #dogtraining101 #dogtrainingtips #puppytraining #dogtrainer #malinois #germanshepherd #k9 #obedience #leashtraining #dogtrainingadvice #puppytrainingtips #leashpulling #dogtok #dogsoftiktok #dogtrainerlife #forcefree #forcefreedogtraining #positivereinforcement #dogtrainingrevolution #zakgeorge
