This is my mealworm setup, and the beetles are called darkling beetles! The meal worms turn into pupae, and the pupae turn into the darkling beetles. I feed the darkling beetles veggies and Dubia diet from dubia.com, and remove any dead ones to keep it clean and healthy. Currently, I use ZooMeds Repti Basking Spot Lamp, NEXT TO Arcadias 7% Shadedweller UVB. I use a variety of things for the basking spot including flagstone and black slate tile. If you have carpet, or an unsafe substrate a fast, easy, and most importantly safe swap is paper towels. In the long run your goal should be 4-6” of a safe loose substrate, however I don’t recommend switching to loose substrate until you are 100% positive your heat, temps, and overall husbandry is correct!
