The Perfect Brush Bath I get asked all the time: “What do you do with your brushes after painting?” I keep it simple—I leave them in a brush bath with the same linseed oil I use for painting. Could you clean them thoroughly and let them dry after every session? Sure. But in my experience, that leads to faster wear and tear on the bristles. Plus, if you’re painting daily, it’s an unnecessary hassle. Another huge benefit of the brush bath? The same oil can be used as your painting medium—zero waste. Can you soak brushes in walnut oil? Sure… But then you'd need to clean them before painting to avoid getting walnut oil in your work, slowing the drying process significantly and potentially causing issues with paint adherence. Simplicity wins for me. There may be fancier ways to store brushes in a bath, but this method has been the most reliable, effective, and effortless for me. 🎨 Want to paint portraits in paradise?
